Admin note: The Giveaway for Kids has drawn to a close. All of the books have gone to good homes. Since the giveaway began, I’ve heard from quilters in about every state in this country. Each one has a heartfelt story to tell of the wonderful warming efforts that they and their groups put forth. It makes me know the depth of caring among quilters. We are a wonderful bunch and I’m happy to be a member of the community.

Due to a printing glitch and subsequent reprinting, I ended up with way more copies of In a Twinkle: Youthful Quilt Designs than I needed. It’s time for them to move away from home!

If you’re a member of a group that makes and donates quilts for kids in need, email me at “kay at kaymackenzie.com” and tell me about your group. I’ll send you 6 copies (as many as I can stuff in a bubble mailer) by the “slow boat to China,” Media Mail. If you feel like paying me back for the postage, you can PayPal a couple bucks to the same address.

If you’re not a member of such a group but you know somebody who is, feel free to spread the word.

frontcoveriat.jpgThis book includes step-by-step. illustrated instructions for five easy quilts and a comfy cozy flannel blankie, plus detailed instructions on the fusible-interfacing method for machine-appliquéing big, simple shapes.

Until next time,
Kay

    My first response!

“I would love to have your book to use at our guild to hand out patterns for the members to make and bring back the next month. Then the members of the charity quilting can put them together for Linus quilts. We also do quilts for an abused women shelter. We rely on donations of fabric, batting and time, your book would be a great addition to this effort.

Twinkles coming your way! Thank you for the good work you do.

    This from K.J.H. in Canada:

“I’ve also joined a local quilt guild and am making a charity quilt for an organization called Victoria’s Quilts. They make quilts for people undergoing cancer treatment — for adults and kids. Currently they’ve made 130 quilts this year and expect to make about 300 by year’s end. Quite an achievement, but unfortunately this means that there are that many people who need the quilts. It makes you count your lucky stars.

Keep up the good work, Kay!”

Thank you! Twinkles crossing the border! Kay

Kay, I’m the librarian of our guild. We also do many Linus quilts during the year. We’ve set aside the month of Jan just for doing such quilts. It’s sad to see so many in need, but just to know we can help one at a time is comfort for me. I too would love to have a copy for our guild to use if you still have a copy. If it weren’t for the efforts of our many pattern makers, the world of quilts would be boring.

I belong to an internet group called Wrap Them in Love, http://www.wraptheminlove.org. We make quilts for children in foreign orphanages. If you have any copies left, we are always interested in new patterns.

I belong to two guilds and am on the board for our quilt show. The guilds do quilts for linus, premies, battered women’s shelters (for mothers and children), and for vets and quilts of valor. We also make quilts for children with cancer at a local hospital. QuiltFest is an umbrella org. for seven guilds in the area. DUring the quilt show we stuff hundreds of “Me” dolls that are used at the Shriners Hospital for the children to understand what the Dr. and nurses will be doing to them to make them well.

You are so very generous to offer to donate your books to groups that make quilts for needy causes. While I support and try to promote all forms of charity efforts, I’ve been able to spend time quilting for Camp Reach For The Sky(kids recovering from cancer), Linus quilts, and Quilts for the Veterans (Quilts with Valor, Blocks for the Brave).

If you are willing to donate a copy(s) of your book to these groups, I’d be happy to coordinate getting your book to the proper hands.
