Donna Curtis, who has many of my books, sent me this note and photo:

“I am a big fan of all things Quilt Puppy! Our small quilting group in Spicewood, Texas, is making a quilt to be raffled for the Highland Lakes Animal Shelter this summer. The center square is the icon for the shelter.
I hope you will enjoy seeing that your patterns are put to good use.”

Are you kidding? I LOVE seeing my patterns put to good use. In fact, great use! I myself am a volunteer at the Santa Cruz County Animals Services shelter here in my town so I can doubly appreciate the effort that Donna and her friends have put forth to benefit the animals in their community. A round of applause!

In this quilt top I see designs from both Easy Appliqué Blocks and Home: A Heartfelt Nap Quilt (center row, either side of the shelter logo).

Thank you, Donna, for sending me the picture to share and for caring about dogs, cats, fish, mice, and all their cousins.

    We have two paps, Misha and Lindsey, and I am making small pap sized quilts for a pap rescue org. aution to raise funds for taking care of the little guys. I have been looking for a pappilon applique pattern for ages. I am not talented enough to do one from a photo. Help! Thanks, Sharon Lewis

    Hi Sharon! Lucky you, to have two of them! Guess what, the ‘Little Dog’ pattern in my book Easy Appliqué Blocks is a papillon in profile. (The tail is modified; it’s hard to appliqué fluff.) I applaud your work helping the rescue group! I can’t give the individual pattern since I share the rights with That Patchwork Place. If you want to do a profile too that’s pretty easy to do from a photo… just put tracing paper over it and draw the main outline. Simplification is perfectly okay!

    Also, Sharon Malec has a papillon pattern though I believe it’s pieced. Here’s the website: http://www.malec-designs.com .
